Choosing a course guide

What to ask before joining an online creative course

Compare online graphic design, video editing and AI courses with questions about projects, feedback, fees, schedules, software, certificates and internship terms.

Before joining an online creative course, request the current written syllabus, total costs, class schedule, teacher details, project feedback process and software requirements. Confirm certificate, missed-class, refund and internship conditions separately. Compare the work you will practise and the support you will receive.

A small preparation exercise

Have an answer, or have an assumption?

Use this local checklist while comparing courses. It does not rate a provider or check enrolment eligibility. Nothing is submitted.

0 of 3 preparation questions answered. Use the unchecked questions in your next enquiry. An unknown detail is a question to resolve.

Ask what you will learn to make

Write down one useful output: a readable poster, a short edited interview, a small visual identity or a checked AI-assisted document workflow. Ask how the syllabus teaches the decisions involved in that output. An application list is useful, but it does not show the sequence of learning or the depth of practice.

Request a recent example lesson brief or assignment that the institute is permitted to share. Ask which parts a beginner should complete independently and what the review criteria are. A clear explanation of a small project is more useful than a brochure that promises to teach “everything”.

Find out who teaches and how your work is reviewed

Ask who will teach your batch and what relevant work or teaching material they can show. Confirm whether that person delivers the live classes, reviews assignments or appears only in recorded material. Use permitted examples rather than asking someone to reveal confidential client work.

Ask what feedback looks like in practice. Will you receive a note on your own file, a live review, a checklist or a group discussion? How do revisions get checked? A course can provide many video hours while leaving very little time for the learner’s actual questions.

  • Who teaches the batch and who reviews the projects?
  • How and when can a learner ask for help?
  • What is the expected turnaround for feedback?
  • Can you revise and resubmit an assignment?
  • What happens when you miss a live class?

Check whether the timetable fits your real week

Request the start date, live session timings, time zone, teaching language, session length and expected independent practice. Confirm recording access and how long materials remain available. For a learner in Kolkata, a convenient online course still needs a workable place and time to practise.

Match the schedule to your current responsibilities. If the advertised duration is three months, ask how many teaching sessions and review opportunities that includes. A calendar length on its own does not reveal the learning time. Do not treat the sample worksheet’s fields as Upnova’s confirmed batch schedule.

Separate course fees from the tools you need

Ask which applications, versions, subscriptions and equipment the work requires. Confirm whether any licences are included and whether you need to pay for them separately. For AI tools, ask which activities can be practised without a paid plan and which depend on a particular service.

Check the software maker’s current requirements with the device you already own. For video work, test representative footage if possible. Footage format, effects and project complexity can affect performance; a sales label such as “creator laptop” does not answer those questions. Avoid buying equipment solely because a sample project ran on someone else’s machine.

Request a written total and the applicable conditions

Ask for the teaching fee, applicable taxes, software costs and any assessment or certificate charge. Confirm instalment dates, payment recipient and the written cancellation or refund conditions before paying. Keep the version of the information supplied for your batch.

If a detail is missing, mark it as unanswered in your comparison. The cheapest headline fee may exclude costs that another offer includes; a higher fee also needs a clear explanation of what support it buys. This guide does not quote current Upnova prices or set its commercial terms.

Treat certificates and internships as separate questions

Ask what a certificate records, who issues it and what completion or assessment requirements apply. If accreditation or external recognition is claimed, request the exact organisation and a way to check that claim at the original source. A logo beside a course title is not enough information to judge it.

For an internship, ask whether there is a separate selection process, who supervises the work, what the tasks and hours are, what can be shown in a portfolio and what written terms apply. Confirm any stipend, fee or other financial condition separately. Avoid assuming that enrolment confirms selection.

Compare two courses using the same questions

Use the downloadable comparison sheet for both options. Record the answer, the source of that answer and the date you received it. Leave space for an unresolved question. Do not turn an unanswered box into a favourable assumption just because the brochure has good gradients.

Before deciding, try a small exercise and ask one focused question about the result. You can also use Upnova’s course pages and enrolment checklist to prepare your enquiry. Request the current written details for the actual batch you are considering.
